This project is made possible by proud pod parents who want to make a difference.
As pod lovers, we all know about the plight of podencos in Spain. Several tens of thousands of Podencos are abandoned or killed each year in Spain after the hunting season ends in February, and together with the galgos the number is estimated to be between 60,000 - 80,000.
​
However, there is a special group of people who work super hard to make sure that these dogs get the life they deserve, both in Spain and the rest of the world. Podencos are adopted out into Europe, UK and even the US and Canada!
​
This project is not an adoption project, but it does aim to spread the word about this wonderful breed in the UK! And we need you to shout the message from the rooftops.
Working together with some amazing podenco rescues and charities, we aim to raise some funds and awareness for the podencos.

Helpers Of The Pods and Dogs
About the project:
Earlier this year, I asked if you had a podenco in your life and if you wanted to share their story. You all responded enthusiastically.
Yes to sharing their stories, and yes to showing your dogs off to the world. We all want to show the world that podencos make wonderful pets. Together, we can raise awareness so that more of these amazing dogs can be adopted out to their forever homes.
The aim of the project is to raise money for podenco rescues and raise awareness for this wonderful breed in Scotland.

In 2023, we will be working on a special book project called 'Podencos in Scotland'. For this book we are organising multiple photoshoots throughout the year, so we are looking for several podenco models with a story to tell.

My name is An Di Prima, Andi for my friends, and my pod story started in 2008 when I adopted my first dog Aika. An absolutely gorgeous podenco mix from Valencia. In 2014, Bae, a galgo - podenco mix from Sevilla joined us (he's the one next to me in the picture).

My love for my dogs inspired me to start my own dog photography business, and after I lost Aika in 2020, Bae & I welcomed podenco Phara into our midst. Bae and Phara are often featured in my award-winning images, and they have inspired this new Podenco project!

Who can take part?
Anyone who lives in Scotland and who has a podenco can participate.
We would love to hear your dog's story. Tell us your dog's rescue story, how they came to live with you. Tell us what your dog loves, their favourite things, their crazy moments. We want to hear about their personalities and all the other good stuff!

What do I need to do?
For each dog that you want to be featured in the book, we ask a participation fee of £50. A portion of this money goes towards the creation of the book, and a portion goes towards our supporting podenco rescues.
Spaces for the book will be limited, so early booking is advised.

Why does it cost money?
This book would not be possible without raising some cash. With the participation fee, we will be able to get the books printed, and everyone who participates will receive a hand signed copy of the book.
The book will also be sold online and in book shops, and all profits of the book will be donated to our supporting podenco rescues.
Our hopes for the book
We hope that with this book, we will be able to raise awareness for podencos in Scotland, the UK and the rest of the world. By showcasing these stunning dogs, and telling their stories, we hope that more people will realise how incredibly rewarding it is to have a podenco in their lives, and that these great hounds make fantastic pets.

Podencos come in lots of different shapes and sizes, and they all have personalities to match! Let's celebrate the podenco in all its glory.
